Fitting Shoe Trees to Shoes
Shoe-trees are expandable using springs so they naturally have room to expand and contract.
With double-tube variety you should go down if you are a half size or a narrow fit shoe otherwise the shoe-tree may be a struggle to get in the shoe. The purpose of the shoe tree is to 'fit' in the shoe with gentle pressure to fill out as much of the shoe as it can - thereby removing creases. It should not be so tight as to be difficult to extract.
When inserting shoe trees it is helpful to squeeze the sides of the front part of the shoe to make sure the shoe-tree gets as far forward as possible.
Fitting Shoes to Feet
All our English shoes are true fit and normal UK size should be perfect.
With Euro sized shoes (boat shoes and casual shoes) the scales do not marry up exactly. So while most people say a 9 is a 43 is it not quite - a 43 often fits a bit small for a UK size 9.
It also depends if the shoe is made on Spanish or Italian lasts as there appears to be some difference.
In addition the shoe style affects fitting. Moccasins (deck shoes) tend to be more flexible and your toe can be almost at the end for a good fit. Whereas a hefty welted country boot will probably need a good toe gap.
